FUE cost UK: a realistic price guide for 2026

The NHS gives a broad UK hair-transplant range of £1,000 to £30,000. That figure covers hair transplantation generally, not FUE alone, and it is too wide to serve as a quote. A useful comparison starts with a clinical graft estimate and a written list of what the fee covers.

If you are comparing FUT cost, read our FUT hair transplant guide covering costs, scars and recovery. Ask for a quote for the method being considered; the FUE guide prices on this page should not be treated as a FUT quotation.

How an FUE quote is calculated

FUE removes follicular units individually from suitable donor hair at the back and sides of the scalp. Those grafts are prepared and placed into the planned recipient area. A small hairline correction and a procedure covering the frontal third and mid-scalp are different operations, even if both are described simply as FUE.

Graft count is a major part of the calculation, but it is not a shopping target. The surgeon first has to decide how many grafts the donor area can supply without leaving it visibly depleted. Hair calibre, curl, colour contrast and the size of the recipient area affect how much coverage a given number of grafts can create. Our donor-area guide explains why the available supply matters as much as the area a patient wants treated.

Clinics use different pricing models. Some quote a fixed fee for an agreed graft band; others set a package price after consultation. A per-graft figure can look easy to compare, but it is only useful when the estimated count, the person carrying out each surgical step and all follow-up charges are written down.

Current Manchester FUE guide prices

The figures below are the current guide prices published by Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic. They are not UK averages. The clinic confirms an individual price after assessing the pattern of hair loss, donor hair and likely graft requirement.

Graft guide Published price Typical planning context
500 grafts £1,999 A small hairline adjustment or selected scar work
1,000 grafts £2,999 Early hairline recession or temple restoration
1,500 grafts £3,499 A hairline or limited area of thinning
2,000 grafts £3,999 Hairline work with frontal or mid-scalp thinning
2,500 grafts £4,499 A broader frontal area extending into the mid-scalp

The clinic's published FUE prices currently begin at £1,999 for 500 grafts, with 1,000 grafts listed at £2,999. Larger operations cost more and may need to be staged when the recipient area is extensive or the donor supply needs protecting. See the main hair transplant cost page for the complete, current price table before relying on any figure in this article.

What should be included in the price?

A low headline figure is not automatically a low total cost. Ask for an itemised quotation showing the consultation and assessment, surgical fee, theatre use, local anaesthetic, aftercare products, scheduled reviews and the clinic's policy on further treatment or revision.

Manchester Hair Transplant Clinic states that its written quote includes an aftercare kit, scheduled follow-up appointments and aftercare support for 12 months after surgery. Another provider may package these services differently. Compare each provider's written terms rather than two numbers on separate websites.

FUE hair transplant procedure and graft placement
FUE pricing should follow an individual clinical assessment and realistic graft plan.

The GMC guidance for cosmetic interventions requires doctors to explain their charges clearly, including what is covered by the quote and what other charges may become payable for routine follow-up or revision. It also requires patients to be given the time and information needed to reach a voluntary, informed decision.

Why two similar graft estimates can produce different prices

The area being restored

A frontal hairline uses grafts differently from the crown. Single-hair follicular units are normally reserved for a softer leading edge, while stronger multi-hair units can add coverage behind it. Crown work has to follow the natural whorl and may spread grafts across a larger surface area. The same graft count therefore does not create the same visual change in every case.

The condition of the donor area

Previous surgery, low density, miniaturisation or scarring can make extraction more demanding and reduce the number of grafts that should be taken. A responsible plan is based on what can be removed safely, not on an advertised “maximum graft” package.

Who performs the procedure

Before booking, obtain the full name of the doctor responsible for the procedure and check their status on the GMC medical register. Ask who will carry out donor incisions, recipient-site creation and graft placement. The answer should be clear before money changes hands.

Aftercare and continuity

Hair transplantation does not end when the patient leaves the operating room. The clinic should explain how concerns are handled during the early healing period, when reviews take place and who is available if symptoms are unexpected. The NHS advises patients to contact the clinic promptly if they develop severe pain or unexpected symptoms after surgery.

Regulation depends on where treatment takes place

Check the named doctor on the GMC register and the treating provider and operating location with the regulator for the country where surgery will take place. In England, check the CQC.

The operating doctor should also appear on the GMC register with a licence to practise. Dr Harpreet Kalra is listed under GMC reference 7126076. Registration is a starting check, not a prediction of the result. Patients should still discuss risks, likely coverage, scarring, future hair loss and the possibility that the outcome may not meet expectations.

How to compare FUE quotes properly

  • Obtain a written graft estimate based on the donor area and recipient plan.
  • Confirm the technique and exactly who performs each surgical stage.
  • Ask whether the number is a fixed fee, a graft band or an estimate that can change.
  • Check which medicines, aftercare products and follow-up appointments are included.
  • Read the cancellation, deposit and revision terms before paying.
  • Verify the clinic with the regulator for the country in which surgery will take place and verify the doctor on the GMC register.

Do not compare a UK quotation with an overseas package until travel, accommodation, time away from work, follow-up access and the route for dealing with complications have been considered. The cheapest booking price and the lowest overall financial risk are not necessarily the same.

Finance does not change the treatment decision

Finance is available at the Manchester clinic subject to the provider's approval, terms and affordability checks. Before signing any agreement, check the deposit, annual percentage rate, total repayable amount, payment schedule and what happens if the procedure is postponed or cancelled. The surgical plan and written quote should be settled before the cost is spread into instalments.

A free consultation is an opportunity to establish whether surgery is suitable and what it would involve; it is not a reason to commit immediately. The GMC says patients must have enough time and information to decide voluntarily and must be told that they can change their mind.

Questions to take to a cost consultation

  • How was my graft range calculated?
  • What will this number of grafts realistically cover?
  • How much donor hair should remain for future loss?
  • What is included for the first 12 months after surgery?
  • Could the quoted price change, and in what circumstances?
  • What are the foreseeable risks and what happens if I need clinical help?

Patients considering FUE can read the clinic's detailed FUE procedure guide before requesting an individual assessment.

Prices were checked against the clinic's published cost page on 30 August 2026 and can change.

Questions and answers

Can I compare FUE quotes by price per graft alone?

No. Compare the proposed treatment area, graft estimate, surgical responsibilities and included follow-up. A lower unit price does not tell you whether the plan fits your donor supply or goals.

Does a guide price replace an individual quote?

No. Ask for a written quote after assessment, with the treatment plan, inclusions, possible additional costs and payment terms clearly stated.

What should I budget for beyond the procedure?

Check whether travel, accommodation, time away from work, prescribed medicines and later reviews would create additional costs. Ask which items are included before committing.
